Wonderful Workings
What seems like a million years ago, (but actually only 40 years ago), I lived in a small town in Oregon. It was the type of place where you had to be a self-starter, so DIY was really big. And it was a place that everyone’s skill set and gifts from Creator were needed, noticed, and appreciated. Our oldest son was 4 years old at the time and coming from places like Chicago and New York City, I was used to having amazing experiences for children and great educational opportunities available. Not so there.
But I didn’t let that stop me, so we gathered together a group of women who wanted to increase the educational experiences available. And then we organized and opened a children’s’ museum which is still in operation now called Wonderworks Children’s Museum! It was quite an endeavor, and our dedicated and talented parents were motivated to create a great place for children to have fun as they learned.
So, I helped birth this wonderful children’s museum. And to make people aware of the opening of the museum, I decided to launch a column in the local newspaper. Obviously, one of my gifts and skill sets that I shared was that I am creative and an artist, so I boldly approached a local newspaper woman and asked them if I could do a child-adult activity column with art and educational activities as the focus. She said “Yes!” and my column, that I called, Wonderful Workings, was born. It was such fun to share activities that I had done with my son now with the area in the Columbia Gorge. Now with the column Wonderful Workings, I could inspire other parents to do the same activities with their children as we did. Such fun for all and an introduction to our newly launched children’s museum.
